Meet NASA astronauts Dr Steve Swanson and Ken Ham. Take photos, ask questions, and get up close with two people who have lived and worked in space.

19:00 - 19:30 Julie Keeble: Space Experiments
Discover the fascinating science behind space experiments with expert Dr. Julie Keeble.

19:45 – 20:20 – Dr Steve Swanson: Life & Leadership on the ISS

Hear how Steve became an astronaut, commanded the International Space Station, and conducted spacewalks in the vacuum of space.

20:20 – 21:00 – Ken Ham: Commanding the Space Shuttle

Ken shares his journey from Navy test pilot to Space Shuttle Commander, including the challenges of leading missions to the ISS.

Throughout the evening, both astronauts will share insights, stories, and reflections on spaceflight, teamwork, and the future of human space exploration, with audience Q&A woven into the talks.

Ken Ham

NASA Astronaut & Space Shuttle Commander

  • Commander of Space Shuttle Atlantis on a mission to the ISS
  • Former US Navy Captain and elite test pilot
  • Flew on two Space Shuttle missions, piloting and commanding in orbit
  • Aerospace engineer with decades at the forefront of aviation and spaceflight
  • Now leads a team of top pilots as COO of Tactical Air Support

Dr Steve Swanson

NASA Astronaut & ISS Commander

  • Commanded the International Space Station and led astronauts in orbit
  • Spent nearly 200 days living and working in space
  • Completed 5 spacewalks, working outside the station in the vacuum of space
  • Flew on 3 missions including Space Shuttle and Soyuz spacecraft
  • From software engineer to astronaut, an inspiring journey into space leadership

Dr Julie Keeble

Senior Lecturer in Pharmacology at King’s College London.

  • Chief Scientist for ISSET
  • 20 years of experience in pharmacology research, specialising in pain, inflammation, and thermoregulation.
  • Leads the development of student-designed experiments for space through Mission Discovery, sending 60+ experiments to the ISS.
  • Expert in how scientific research is conducted in microgravity.
