Mission Discovery FAQs
The day programme runs from Monday 12 to Friday 16 July 2027 at King’s College London, Guy’s Campus, near London Bridge. Residential students arrive the day before the programme begins. We’ll email exact arrival instructions before the programme.
Mission Discovery is designed for students aged 14 to 18. Confident students aged 13 may also attend by arrangement if they are comfortable working alongside older students. Students are grouped broadly by age. Please email info@isset.space before booking for a student aged 13.
No. Curiosity and a willingness to work with others are more important than prior technical knowledge. Astronauts, scientists and mentors guide students through the challenge. There are opportunities to contribute through research, creativity, communication, problem solving and leadership.
Yes. Most students come without knowing anyone and are placed in a team at the start of the programme. We group students broadly by age. If friends would like to work together, email us their names in advance and we’ll do our best to place them in the same team. Each participant needs their own booking.
Students learn from astronauts and other experts, take part in team challenges and develop a space experiment proposal with guidance from their mentors. Teams present their ideas to a panel on the final day. The winning idea is selected for development and launch into space, and students receive a certificate for taking part.
On Monday, doors open at 9:30am and the programme starts at 10:00am. From Tuesday to Friday, students can arrive from 8:45am for a 9:00am start. The programme finishes at 4:00pm Monday to Thursday and 3:30pm on Friday. We’ll confirm the final joining details by email.
Many students from state schools attend with their school’s permission to miss a few days near the end of term. Schools may record this as approved educational activity under the “E” attendance code. Please speak to your child’s school in advance, as the decision is theirs. We can provide a letter explaining the programme and its educational benefits.
Lunch is not included with either booking option. Students can bring a packed lunch or buy food on campus using a cashless payment method. Please do not bring nuts or foods containing nuts. Students must remain on campus during breaks and lunch.
Bring a laptop or tablet and charger for research and presentations; a laptop is strongly recommended where possible. Students should also bring a water bottle, a nut-free lunch or a way to buy one, a mobile phone for contact, and comfortable smart-casual clothing with a waterproof layer. Free Wi-Fi is available on campus. International students should bring a suitable UK plug adapter.
Residential students attend the same daytime programme and stay in supervised student accommodation, arriving the day before the programme begins. The residential package includes accommodation and meals other than lunch. We’ll send residential families check-in instructions, the accommodation address and further practical details before arrival.
Students stay in single-sex flats, with ISSET staff supervising the residential programme throughout the week. Staff conduct evening check-ins and room checks, and the 10:00pm curfew is enforced. Students travel together with mentors between accommodation, meals and the programme venue. Staff and students are given emergency and safeguarding contact details on arrival.
Yes. Students travel from many countries to attend. Families arrange their own travel to the agreed arrival point; ISSET does not provide airport collection. If a student under 18 is travelling without a parent or guardian, please check the requirements of their airline and travel route. We’ll agree the student’s arrival and departure arrangements with you before the programme.
Yes. Day students can make their own way home when the programme finishes each day. Parents and guardians are responsible for arranging their travel to and from campus.
Yes. Students with a range of support needs have attended Mission Discovery. Please tell us about any disability, neurodivergence, sensory, medical or other support needs before the programme so we can discuss suitable adjustments and plan support with your family.
Please provide medical conditions, allergies, medication instructions and emergency contacts on the personal details form, and tell us if anything changes. Our team has first-aid cover and safeguarding procedures. Staff will respond to illness or injury, contact parents or guardians as appropriate, and call emergency services when needed. We’ll agree any individual medication support in advance.
You should receive an automatic email with a link to the personal details form. Please complete it to finish the booking process. Check your spam or junk folder if the email does not arrive; if you still cannot find it, email info@isset.space and we’ll send you the form.
We do not currently offer grants or bursaries. We can arrange interest-free monthly instalments for Mission Discovery 2027, with payments completed by May 2027. This is simply a way to spread the programme fee, with no interest or credit agreement. Email info@isset.space to arrange a plan.
Please see our Refund Policy for the current Mission Discovery cancellation and refund terms. Email cancellation requests to info@isset.space.
Photos and videos may be taken during the programme by authorised staff. We seek parental consent before using identifiable images of students under 18 publicly, and students can also decline to be photographed or filmed. Please tell us your preferences on the personal details form.

No. Astro Space Camp is a short-term educational enrichment programme and is not Ofsted registered. We cannot accept Tax-Free Childcare payments or childcare vouchers.
Please tell us about your child’s allergies, health needs and emergency contacts on the form before camp. We’ll agree any individual care plan with you. Nuts and foods containing nuts are not allowed, children are supervised while eating, and food sharing is not permitted. The nut-free rule cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment on a shared campus. For medication, we need written parental instructions and consent, with medicine in its original labelled packaging. Designated staff will record any doses given, and emergency medication will remain accessible to competent staff.
Please tell us about any disability, special educational, sensory, language or other support needs before attendance. We’ll discuss reasonable adjustments and an individual support plan with you and your child, then review it during camp.
We can release a child only to a pre-authorised adult aged 18 or over after verifying their identity through the agreed photo ID or secure collection procedure. If the collector changes, we must verify the change with a known parent contact. Children cannot leave on their own. If a child is not collected on time, staff will keep them supervised and contact parents and emergency contacts.
The camp has a maximum of 30 children per day, grouped by age. The minimum planning ratio is one supervising adult for every ten children, with four suitable supervising adults assigned across the activity rooms. Additional cover is arranged when needed for first aid, breaks, transitions or individual support. Outdoor activities are supervised on campus immediately outside New Hunt’s House; no off-campus activities are planned.
Named first-aid contacts are available at camp. Staff will provide appropriate first aid, record the incident and contact you promptly. They will call emergency services when needed and arrange adult accompaniment if required while keeping the rest of the group supervised.
The personal details form asks you to choose whether your child may appear in individual and group photos and videos, in wider group photos and videos only, or in no identifiable images used by ISSET. Images may be used on ISSET’s website, social media and promotional materials. An authorised photographer may attend on some days. A blank or unclear choice is treated as no permission, and your child can decline to be photographed or filmed at the time. Staff do not use personal devices for child photos. Email us if you wish to withdraw permission; we can remove images from channels we control where practicable, though copies already distributed may not be recoverable.
Please email info@isset.space to request a change. Changes are subject to availability.
